Thousands without power after semi collides with power pole in Chilliwack

The collision happened at Prest and First and now 3,600-plus customers are without power

A semi hauling a load of hay bales went into a power pole at Prest Road and First Avenue causing a large power outage in Chilliwack Saturday morning.

According to BC Hydro, more than 3,600 customers are without power as a result of the collision.

Firefighters who arrived on scene shortly before 11 a.m., said the trailer was partially in the ditch and the pole was leaning on an angle at the intersection located near the train tracks.

There are no other vehicles involved in the collision.

Just minutes before the call came in for this incident, firefighters were called to another report of power lines down in the downtown area of Chilliwack.

Emergency crews are currently on scene at Nowell Street near Third Avenue where there are power lines lying across the road.

BC Hydro has been called to attend both scenes and traffic will be rerouted and is expected to be backed up in the two areas.

There is another power outage in the Chilliwack River Valley area where 104 customers along Chilliwack Lake Road have been without power since about 8:30 a.m. Saturday. An update at 10:30 a.m. stated that crews were on scene tending to the outage.
