Tessier expected to be acclaimed at Liberal candidate selection meeting

NANAIMO – Like the federal Conservatives and Green Party, the Liberals are expected to see an acclaimed candidate in Nanaimo-Ladysmith.

Like the federal Conservatives and Green Party, the Liberals will see an acclaimed candidate in the Nanaimo-Ladysmith riding for the upcoming election.

Tim Tessier, a Nanaimo realtor, is expected to be named at the party’s candidate selection meeting, scheduled for Sunday (March 29) at the Grand Hotel.

According to Shaun Govender, Liberal B.C. executive director, there were two candidates, but one had to withdraw due to personal reasons. Despite the lone candidate, the meeting will still take place, as a matter of protocol.

“There is still the party process in terms of having him nominated to be the candidate at the meeting, which is a formality of the whole process, but that still has to be observed for him to officially become a candidate,” said Govender.

Tessier will join the Conservatives’ Mark MacDonald, Sheila Malcolmson (NDP) and Paul Manly (Green Party) on the Nanaimo-Ladysmith ballot.

The 42nd Canadian general election is tentatively scheduled to take place in October.
