Technicon a finalist for apprenticeship award

The northern B.C. company is now top-five in the Small Business BC award category

Technicon Industries has advanced to the final round of the Small Business BC awards, now in the top five for Best Apprentice Training.

After being nominated and voted up by members of the public, this final round will see Technicon present to a judging panel in Vancouver who will decide and announce the award winners on Feb. 23.

One of Technicon’s owners, Andrew Contumelias, said the company employs 42 locals in Terrace, Kitimat, and Prince Rupert, and has sponsored 33 apprentices in a variety of trades since 2009.

So far, seven of those apprentices have become journeymen, he said.

Technicon also made the top five for it’s apprenticeship program last year.
