Suspect who pleaded guilty to attempted jewelry robbery gets jail time

NANAIMO – Craig Edward Truckle was sentenced to four months in jail for Monday's attempted robbery.

Craig Edward Truckle, 30, who was captured and held for police by bystanders after attempting to rob Paris Jewellers in Woodgrove Centre Monday, will spend the next few months in jail.

Truckle appeared in Nanaimo provincial court Tuesday where he pleaded guilty to attempting to steal jewelry from the store and was sentenced to four months in jail.

Truckle was wrestled to the ground by several civilians while attempting to flee through Woodgrove Centre following the botched theft attempt.

“When the actions of civilians go above and beyond and are instrumental in assisting our members in carrying out their duties, those actions are reviewed locally for official recognition,” said Const. Gary O’Brien, Nanaimo RCMP spokesman. “We believe these individuals not only met but exceeded the established criteria for acknowledgement.”
