The Abbotsford Police Department has released surveillance images of a man who they say sexually assaulted a teenage girl on a BC Transit bus on Saturday, Oct. 3.

Sgt. Judy Bird said the assault took place at 6:40 p.m., when the suspect approached the 17-year-old victim as she was waiting at the Bourquin Crescent bus exchange by Sevenoaks Shopping Centre.

Bird said the man followed the victim onto bus #9, where he began making unwanted sexual advances and engaged in unwanted touching. The suspect got off the bus after a few stops.

The suspect is described as a South Asian man between 60 and 70 years old. He has a white beard and was wearing a blue surgical mask, a light-blue turban, dark shoes and a light-coloured thin shirt and pants.

Bird said anyone who encounters something inappropriate or illegal while on a bus should tell the bus driver or call 911.

Anyone with information about the incident or who can identify the suspect is asked to call the APD 604-859-5225.

Earlier on Wednesday (Oct. 14) police released a composite sketch of a different suspect in a sexual assault that occurred on Aug. 14. In that incident, a woman was assaulted as she was watering plants in her yard.

The suspect in that assault is described as a clean-shaven South Asian man in his 30s, with short black hair and a slim build.

He was wearing work clothing described as a grey short-sleeve button-up flannel shirt, ripped jeans, work boots and brown oversized work gloves. Bird said he spoke English with a heavy accent.
