SURREY — A man and a woman were wounded in what police say appears to have been an accidental shooting in Whalley early Thursday morning.

Surrey Mounties found the man, age 30, suffering from a gunshot wound shortly after 3 a.m. Thursday at 135A Street and 108th Avenue. More police flooded into the area and found the second victim, a 44-year-old woman, nearby. They also found a handgun.

Both victims where taken to hospital, treated for what Corporal Scotty Schumann described as “superficial” injuries and were released shortly afterward.

“It appears accidental,” Schumann said.

Schumann said police are speaking with witnesses and have yet to take a statement from the man.

Police have not yet revealed how many shots were fired, or a theory on how and why this happened. It happened outside, Schumann said.

“We still have quite a bit of investigating to do.”

This is the city’s 47th shooting incident this year that’s been confirmed by police.
