SURREY — Police are seeking witnesses to a traffic crash that claimed the life of a Surrey pedestrian on Christmas Eve.

It happened in the 9100-block of 132nd Street, at about 2:45 p.m.

“The investigation suggests that the pedestrian, a 32-year-old woman from Surrey, became entangled with a car while it was in motion,” Surrey RCMP Corporal Scotty Schumann said.

A 2015 four-door Volkswagen Jetta hit her, he said. “The pedestrian fell over the side of the vehicle, sustained what appeared to be relatively minor injuries at the time, and was transported to hospital.”

The driver, a 41-year-old Surrey man, stayed at the scene and is cooperating with investigators, Schumann said. “Unfortunately, the pedestrian’s injuries worsened and she died at the hospital two days later.”

Schumann said police need witnesses to come forward. “Witness accounts are paramount to determining the sequence of events that led to this tragic incident.”

Police ask witnesses to contact the Surrey RCMP at 504-599-0502.
