Sooke is getting a pedestrian bridge across DeMamiel Creek.

Planning is in the early stages so the exact location has not been decided, but the new crossing will connect Sunriver to the Sooke town-side of the river.

On Monday, council approved ISL Engineering to design and build the bridge. ISL will look at the area and come up with ideas for locations that would be most appropriate to build the crossing.

The bridge will cost about $54,521 to build.

The purpose of the bridge is to get residents back and forth across the water in an “efficient and non-motorized fashion.”
