The District of Sooke will open its doors to the public on Thursday (March 15).

The mayor and council will host an open house at Municipal Hall from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

“It’s a way to engage and communicate with our residents,” said Mayor Maja Tait, who expects all council members to attend as well as some municipal staff.

The first hour will consist of a meet, greet and mingle.

Tait will also make a 10-minute presentation detailing district activities, advocacy work, highways, local health-care initiatives and how the federal and provincial budgets will impact local government.

An open question and answer session will follow.

“Local government is very important in everyone’s everyday lives. We should showcase all the work we are doing,” Tait said.

“I think anyway to meet with people in an informal setting is important.”
