Snow day for Chilliwack students

Snowfall overnight prompts district to shutter schools, including Neighbourhood Learning Centre

Chilliwack public schools are closed for day, the district announced at about 5 a.m.

“Schools closed today (February 12th) to students and staff (including daycares, preschools, NLC, rentals and all community use).

Emergency staffing plan in effect,” the website reads.

The school board has not yet announced if their regular school board meeting, set for 7 p.m. at the district office, will be cancelled as well.

All campuses are closed for the University of the Fraser Valley, for the second day. Unity Christian and Cascade Christian has also closed for the day.

Squiala elementary school in Chilliwack has also decided to close for the day.

However, all schools in the Fraser Cascade district (Hope, Agassiz, Harrison Hot Springs and Boston Bar) are open today, and their buses are running.

A snowfall warning is still in effect this morning for the Chilliwack area. Environment Canada is forecasting “a long period of snowfall with total amounts of 15 to 25 cm is expected” in the Fraser Valley, including Chilliwack, Hope and Abbotsford.
