Snow conditions could cause spotty trash collection in Nanaimo

City says garbage will be picked up depending on road conditions

Garbage will be picked up today, Feb. 19, depending on road conditions.

According to a City of Nanaimo press release, solid waste collection drivers will attempt pickup on scheduled routes. However, Nanaimo residents are advised that, due to snow coverage and challenging road conditions, trash pickup in some areas may be missed, particularly in higher elevation areas.

Residents whose garbage, kitchen or recycling collection is missed Monday are asked to please take it back in and it will be collected it on the next scheduled garbage day. For Monday, Feb. 19, routes, the next kitchen waste collection day will be Monday, Feb. 26. Residents with too much kitchen waste can place it in their garbage, an exception for snowy weather only. The next garbage collection day will be Monday, March 5. Extra garbage will be taken on that date and there is no need for a tag.

If recycling is missed, residents are asked to take it back in and it will be collected Monday, March 5. Driver will take extra on that date, as well.
