An 88-year-old Parksville senior was sent for treatment in hospital after being thrown three metres in a pedestrian motor vehicle collision last week.
Oceanside RCMP Corporal Jesse Foreman said the incident happened at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday evening when the 63-year-old driver of a late model pickup truck attempted to turn left from Highway 19A onto Bagshaw Street.
The victim, he said, was in the crosswalk, heading east at the time of the collision.
The senior was unresponsive and subsequently air-lifted to Victoria General Hospital.
The Oceanside RCMP, Central Vancouver Island Traffic Services, BC Ambulance Service and an RCMP Traffic Analyst attended the scene.
“Based on current information the investigation has determined that the sun, which was low in the sky, was a significant factor,” Foreman said, adding that neither alcohol nor speed were apparent factors. The investigation into the crash continues.
