A suspected thief with a hankering for sausage was arrested by Vernon RCMP Wednesday.

Officers responded to an alarm at 2:30 a.m. from Ritters European House in the 4300 block of 31st Street. Upon arrival, police noticed a front window had been broken and entry gained to the business.

“About three blocks away, one of our officers noticed a man carrying a blue plastic milk crate with numerous items in it,” said RCMP spokesperson Gord Molendyk.

“When our officer checked the suspect, he noticed a large bulk sausage in the milk crate similar to what would be in the business from where the alarm was reported.”

The suspect, a 23-year-old man, was arrested and taken into custody. He was slated to appear in court Wednesday to answer to charges of break-and-enter to several businesses in Vernon after items of food were also found in the container he was allegedly carrying.
