A suspect is being sought in a violent robbery.
The owner of Hagemann Jewellers on 30th Avenue was struck in the head by a hammer Saturday as he confronted an individual attempting to steal jewelry.
“Any time an individual experiences a robbery and the suspect assaults you, it’s very traumatic,” said Gord Molendyk.
The public is being asked to provide any information that may identify the suspect.
“We hope someone may have seen him leave (the scene),” said Molendyk.
The incident occurred before 11 a.m. when an individual wearing a white Halloween mask, entered the store and began smashing display case glass with a hammer.
The owner confronted the male suspect with a baton and swung it at the suspect, but the suspect hit the owner in the head with the hammer and fled on foot eastbound on 30th Avenue.
“The police service dog was unable to get a track,” said Molendyk, adding that the individual did steal a couple of pieces of jewelry.
The store owner was taken to hospital, but the extent of his injuries are not known.
“The owner appeared to be bleeding from the head,” said Molendyk.
The male suspect is about six feet tall with light brown hair. Besides the Halloween mask, he was wearing a dark sweater, a scarf and a fedora-style hat with dark pants.
Anyone with information about this crime is asked to call the RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
