The Revelstoke School District sits on top of the of the Human Early Learning Partnership’s Early Development Instrument (EDI) rankings for the third consecutive time.
The instrument measures the vulnerability of children when they enter kindergarten. It looks at a child’s physical health and well being, social competence, emotional maturity, language and cognitive development and communication skills. According to the latest data, which was released last week, 10 per cent of the 138 Revelstoke kindergarten students evaluated are vulnerable in one or more of those areas.
The instrument measures the vulnerability of students at all school districts. Even when the numbers are broken down to the neighbouhood, Revelstoke fairs well, ranking eighth in the province.
“I think this community has worked extremely hard to ensure that programs that we know work continue to get support despite the ebb and flow of funding,” said school district superintendent Anne Cooper.
