A Jan. 9 RCMP road check on the Trans-Canada Highway just east of Revelstoke resulted in the seizure of 24 kilos (53 pounds) of marijuana.
Revelstoke Traffic Services members Cst. Gary McLaughlin and Revelstoke detachment member Cst. Justin Yacoboski had set up a road check near Greeley. They pulled over their first vehicle for speeding at about 10:30 a.m.
Inside that vehicle the RCMP found the 24 kilos, divided into 50 packages.
The driver of the vehicle is from Calgary. He is facing charges of possession for the purpose of trafficking and is scheduled to appear in Revelstoke Provincial Court in May.
It was the Revelstoke RCMP’s first big drug bust of 2012.
