While a number of items were taken during a late-day break-and-enter in the Foothills Monday, one item stolen has left the victims devastated.
Taken from the basement of a home in the 1400 block of Copper Mountain Court was a royal blue velour bag which contained the ashes of the victim’s mother.
Inside the bag was a box which contained the name of the deceased, and attached to the bag was a smaller mesh bag containing a wedding ring and band.
“The victim of this break-and-enter is making a public appeal to the person who stole the ashes to please return them by placing them in a public place with a note so they could be reunited with the owner,” said Vernon RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Gerry Kovacs.
The breakand-enter to the residence occurred sometime during the daytime hours while the homeowners were away, and was reported to police shortly before 5 p.m.
Entry was gained to the residence through the rear patio door.
The suspect(s) also stole a significant amount of electronic items, cash and jewelry.
The investigation into the break-and-enter is continuing with the assistance of the forensic identification section, and the RCMP is asking anyone with information about this crime to contact Vernon RCMP at 250-545-7171 or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
