Gourlay was the director of Electoral Area G, which covers the French Creek, San Pareil and Little Qualicum region. He also served on the electoral area services committee and the transit select committee, and chaired the regional parks and trails select committee and the Oceanside services committee.

Alternate director Joe Stanhope will take over Gourlay’s responsibilities until a byelection is held.
