Qualicum school district releases payroll numbers

Board members make upwards of 13K while top earner makes more than $160K

School District 69 (Qualicum) has released its payroll list for the 2016-17 year, with elected officials and employees who made more than $75,000.

For the year ending June 30, 2017, the school board’s five members collectively made $73,028.35, plus $6,458.93 in expenses.

The board’s chair, Eve Flynn, received the most at $16,534.74, with the board’s youngest member and vice-chair Jacob Gair making $14,928.63.

Highest in expenses was Barry Kurland at $2,008.20 followed up by Flynn with $1,890.89. Gair’s expenses were significantly lower than the other board members at $302.40.

School district employees altogether were paid $33,580,135.01 plus $255,050.15 in expenses.

Employees making more than $75,000 received $15,123,898.11 total, plus $61,870.10 in expenses.

Those making less than or equal to $75,000 received $18,456,236.80 plus $193,180.05 for expenses.

The district’s top earner was superintendent Rollie Koop at $163,417.76.

Next was secretary-treasurer Ron Amos with $133,319.66, followed by assistant superintendent Gillian Wilson at $130,070.97.

The staff member making more than $75,000 with the highest expenses was general manager Chris Dempster at $9,896.78, followed by international student program principal Ross Pepper, at $9,500.63.
