Building on a longstanding tradition, the All They Want For Christmas team will again partner with School District 69 to donate food and gifts to families with school-aged children who are not able to provide the basic necessities for a family Christmas in their home.
This year the group is looking to ensure that once again, at least 100 families (identified through SD69 schools) experiencing significant need will receive a grocery hamper, oral hygiene products, pajamas, books and gifts for their children.
The primary fundraising event is the annual dance Nov. 28 at Qualicum Community Hall. Eddie and the Funk return to provide live music starting at 8 p.m. There will also be a live auction featuring five substantial prize packages and draw prizes for donations at the door.
Entry is by donation, with a suggested donation of a Q Bird Certificate, a $20 gift certificate or cash.
“The types of gift certificates requested are for merchants that provide the full range of shopping opportunities that would allow a needy family to purchase low-cost necessities,” said Rollie Koop, superintendent of SD69 and co-director of the project with Virginia Worcester. “Things like clothing, groceries, diapers and toiletries.”
Additionally, any donation of cash, pajamas, games or other gift certificates will earn a spot in the draw.
Throughout the holiday season, anyone may contribute to the cause by donating their Quality Foods points to “Christmas — Rollie and Virginia” to help purchase groceries.
“We want to thank our friends at Quality Foods for their amazing support for this project,” said Koop. “As well, we could not make this event happen without the support of generous individuals and businesses who have stepped up to contribute.”
