Prolific offender arrested in Parksville

RCMP says they are linking the man to several property-related offences

Oceanside RCMP on Thursday tracked down and arrested a 20-year-old man on the run from two arrest warrants.

The suspect appeared in Nanaimo Provincial Court Friday to face multiple charges, RCMP stated in a written release.

At the time he was caught Oct. 6, Thomas Chambers, 20, had two arrest warrants outstanding and had been on the run in relation to other police files in the Oceanside area, RCMP said. Police followed Chambers to a residence in downtown Parksville, the resident of the home invited the RCMP inside and an arrest was made without incident.

Since the beginning of October, there had been a number of property-related offenses in which Chambers was suspected, RCMP said. After sifting through police files, surveillance and forensic evidence, the RCMP say they were able to link him to a number of alleged local crimes. These include a break and enter with theft at a Qualicum Beach business; a break and enter with theft in Parksville; obstruction; and possession of stolen property.

“This is a great example of the detachment members working together with the general public and RCMP Forensic Services to quickly piece the evidence together in order to arrest a chronic offender,” Oceanside RCMP Staff Sgt. Marc Pelletier said.
