Kids in Port Edward have a new recreation option this summer with the official opening of the community’s new skateboard park.

The park, located at 633 Sunset Drive next to the school, includes a mini halfpipe, three ramps, some rails for grinding, a couple of kickers and a bench to use. Following the cutting of the ribbon, the kids in attendance were treated to a demo of the new equipment by both a skateboard and BMX rider.

The skateboard park concludes a commitment from council in 2010 to build a facility in the community, with the design for the park being chosen by the kids during a consultation period in December of 2010.
