A Port Alice man has been arrested for domestic assault and firearms offences.
According to a press release, “On Jan. 21st, at approximately 8:30 a.m. the Port Hardy/Port Alice RCMP were notified of a Domestic Violence incident that occurred over the previous two days at a residence in Port Alice,” wrote S/Sgt. Wes Olsen.
“The complainant had reported that she had been assaulted on two occasions and that she was also threatened with a firearm but was able to leave the residence.”
The press released stated that based on the nature of the complaint and the information provided about the presence of firearms in the residence, the Port Hardy Detachment notified the Island District Emergency Response Team and requested their attendance.
“The Emergency Response Team responded to Port Alice and attended the residence along with local detachment members,” noted Olsen. “An adult male exited the residence upon police arrival and surrendered without incident. Police secured a Search Warrant for the property and subsequently recovered numerous firearms and ammunition.”
A 31 year old male from Port Alice is currently being held in custody and is facing a number of criminal charges including Assault With a Weapon, Careless Use of a Firearm, Pointing a Firearm, Possessing a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose, Uttering Threats, Mischief Under $5000 and several firearms offences in relation to the investigation.
The name of the male is being withheld at this time until formal charges have been laid in the matter.
