Police issue theft warning

Don't leave valuables in vehicles, say police

Police are warning Oceanside residents to avoid leaving valuables in their vehicles where thieves can see them — regardless of where they live.

The warning came in light of a theft from a vehicle in Bowser last Friday.

Corporal Richard van de Pol said the theft took place in the Pearl Road area and was discovered at 7:30 a.m.

“A Toyota Corolla was broken into and a black and silver tool kit was taken, along with some other little items,” he said.

He stressed that, with warm weather and tourist season approaching, extra vigilance is good policy.

“There are criminals out there who really don’t care if they smash your car window to get that $5 CD,” he said.
