A man threatening to harm himself was talked out of doing so by Vernon RCMP officers.
Concerned citizens contacted police at 5:30 p.m. Sunday to report a 28-year-old man had apparently stabbed himself in the leg at his apartment on 35th Avenue, and was threatening to further harm himself.
“The man had barricaded himself in his apartment,” said RCMP spokesperson Gord Molendyk.
“After a period of time, our officers were able to convince the man to give up the knife he had and come out.”
The man was arrested under the Mental Health Act without further incident.
He was taken to Vernon Jubilee Hospital for treatment of his injuries, which Molendyk described as “very minor.” The man was also slated to undergo a psychiatric assessment while at VJH.
