Pickleball courts get approved

Tennis court at Armstrong's Memorial Park will be converted into a a pickleball court.

A North Okanagan community will serve up a dedicated pickleball facility.

Armstrong Spallumcheen Parks and Recreation will convert its long neglected tennis court at Memorial Park to a pickleball court.

“We are in the process of getting quotes to re-do the tennis court into a pickleball court,” said Coun. Joe Van Tienhoven, Spallumcheen’s representative to the parks and recreation board.

“It’s not cost effective enough to turn into a tennis court.”

Once the court is resurfaced and lined for pickleball, it will open to players on a first-come, first-serve basis.

“It’s definitely in the works to work on it this year and get it open for a short pickleball season,” said Van Tienhoven. “How long it will progress, I can’t say.”

Tennis players can still use the courts at Len Wood Middle School.

n The swimming pool at Memorial Park opened for aquafit classes and swim lessons May 14. The pool will open for public swimming this weekend.
