The people on Cliff Avenue are banding together so they have a voice.
That’s happening on social media, and now in real life as people who’ve been following the issue gather in Memorial Peace Park on Sunday.
They’re calling it a Community Block Party and there will be fun and games and face painting and a bouncy castle in the park on 224th Street from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
“It’s a party in the park with neighbours and Facebook friends. Rain or shine!” says the poster.
And in return for bringing a food bank donation, you can get a hot dog.
Several Facebook groups, such as Protecting Maple Ridge, Maple Ridge Council Watch and Maple Ridge Tax Payers Against Tent City, have been debating the growth of the homeless camp on Cliff Avenue online.
The event is organized by the Concerned Citizens Standing up for a Better Community.
Some of the members of the Facebook groups live in their own homes along Cliff Avenue and have been dealing with the effects of having 60 or so people camping across the street for more than six months.
