Park shelter gains traction

GVAC has given agreement in principle to providing $24,670 for a Paddlewheel Park shelter

There is support for additional amenities at  Paddlewheel Park.

The Greater Vernon Advisory Committee has given agreement in principle to providing $24,670 to the Okanagan Landing Community Association for a picnic shelter.

“They are a volunteer group and very active,” said Juliette Cunningham, GVAC chairperson, of her desire to provide funding to the association.

The shelter has been proposed for where the old caretaker’s residence used to be.

The 20-foot-by-30-foot timber-frame structure would follow a heritage theme given the property’s former significance as a terminus for rail and lake transportation.

The total cost of the project is $49,670 and other funding sources are being sought.

Before the GVAC funding is provided, staff will gather additional information from the community association.
