The Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen is preparing to implement a mass notifications solution to inform residents about emergency situations, community events, transit route updates, public meetings and more.

“We believe this software will significantly enhance our ability to communicate with our citizens.” said the CAO Bill Newell. “It will provide a way for our Emergency Operations Centre to communicate with the public instantly and effectively. Our motto is ‘Be Safe – Be Informed – Be Involved in Your Community’ and our hope is that this is exactly what CivicReady will allow us to do.”

The integrated technology platform for local government will allow the regional district to issue urgent emergency notifications and public safety communications to subscribed citizens via email, text messages, and text-to-voice alerts to landlines, to keep citizens safe and informed.

To sign up go to www.rdos.bc.ca/news-events/civic-ready/, click on your electoral area, enter your contact information and select the emergency notification group. From there on you will receive updated alerts from your electoral area through either email, phone call, or text. You can change the way you receive notifications any time from your CivicReady account.

The RDOS said it is their goal that in the next month or so, they will be able to expand the available groups to include routine notifications such as community events, water and sewage systems notices, transit route updates, land use public meetings and more.
