The owner of the Crown Isle Shopping Centre is set to begin the third and final phase of construction at the intersection of Lerwick and Ryan roads in Courtenay.
Nova Scotia-based Crombie REIT has been issued a building permit worth $3.25 million for the larger of two new buildings with associated site works and landscaping. It will be about 12,000 square feet.
PetSmart has been confirmed as one of the tenants.
“We’ve mobilized on site and hope to begin construction shortly,” said Kevin Pritchard, Crombie REIT’s director of development for Western Canada.
The company plans to construct a second building, which includes an identified restaurant space, at around 6,500 square feet.
“We don’t have any tenants confirmed at this time,” Pritchard said. “We hope to get a restaurant use in there, but really market will tell us as we get under construction.
“Depending on how long the building permit takes, we’ll be under construction late-spring/early-summer on the second building,” he added. “We will be fully built out after these two buildings this year. It’s a strong centre. We’re quite happy with it. We have a good roster of tenants there.”
