Motorists have been using a realigned stretch of Highway 6 since the fall, but the project is now officially open.
A celebration was held Friday to mark the upgrades made to the highway between Ricardo and Grey roads in Coldstream.
“The straighter alignment, wider shoulders and intersection improvements will significantly reduce the chance of crashes,” said Eric Foster, Vernon-Monashee MLA.
Between 2000 and 2009, there were 119 reported crashes, primarily at the old section of Highway 6 and Kalamalka Road.
The 2.2-kilometre project cost $11 million to complete.
