New logo in the works for Kent Elementary

Principal Stan Watchorn decided it was time for an upgrade

Kent Elementary will be getting a refreshed logo in the coming months.

Principal Stan Watchorn has been designing a new logo for the school for about two months, after realizing the old school logo was “very, very old.”

“I just thought it was time to update it,” he said.

“The district is starting to … update the websites of schools, and I thought it was most appropriate that we should look at our logo.”

The new logo will incorporate an evergreen tree and line representing the Fraser River — something Watchorn had to approach the school district about in order to use, as it is part of their logo — as well as Mount Cheam and a mountain lion.

“We’re the Kent Lions, and the current version of the Kent lion is an African lion,” Watchorn said.

The logo will be going to the parent advisory council and staff at the school for some feedback. It’s expected to be revealed in the next month or so.

“Things always take longer than you anticipate,” Watchorn said.

Once the logo is finished, it won’t be creating any major changes at the school. It will mostly be used on letterhead, the school website and any communications coming from the school.

“It’s not a huge, big deal,” Watchorn said. “It’s just time to update it.”
