Bev Tripp will be the city’s newest councillor after winning the May 28 byelection for a single open seat on Grand Forks City Council. Seven candidates ran for the seat, which has been vacant for the past nine months.
Tripp came away with a total of 280 votes, or 31 per cent of the total vote. Following her were Brian Taylor with 211 votes, Cathy Korolek with 179, Kyle Piper with 76, Zak Eburne-Stoodley with 70, Patrick O’Doherty with 58, and Ken H.F. Johnston with 15 for a total of 889 ballots cast.
Tripp will be sworn in at a special meeting at 9 a.m., Monday, June 13, just prior to the regularly scheduled Committee of the Whole meeting. The public is both welcome and encouraged to attend.
She will serve for two years and five months, concluding her term in October 2018. The seat was left vacant by Michael Wirischagin, who resigned from council in August 2015.
