The Nanaimo Hospitality Association has been able to get back to making visitors feel welcome and hopes more people will take advantage of what the area has to offer.
The hospitality association, along with partners, has launched a series of contests with accommodations and tourism experiences as prizes.
It was a “busy August long weekend” for tourism and hotel occupancy rates are now at 70-85 per cent, noted a press release from the association, adding that members have embraced Destination B.C.’s focus on exploring the province, and have taken a “squeaky-clean approach” to COVID-19 health and safety.
“I am so proud of how our local accommodators and tourism stakeholders have really pulled together to re-open our community with these new safety standards in place,” said Dan Brady, the association’s executive director, in the release. “We are very excited to continue sharing this special part of Vancouver Island with visitors while still adhering to the highest level of cleanliness.”
The hospitality association launched a ‘We’re Ready for You’ campaign at the start of the summer and said its new contest series is a way to try to continue momentum.
Vancouver Island Whale Watch, Harbour Air and WildPlay Element Parks Nanaimo are some of the local tourism operators partnering on the contest.
“People are looking for ways to make the most of their summer and Nanaimo is very fortunate to have so much to offer in the way of natural beauty, outdoor recreation, and wide-open spaces to explore along with a variety of local amenities,” said Jen Hale of WildPlay Nanaimo, in the release.
