Nanaimo set to release report on cancelled leadership event

NANAIMO – City council has opted against holding an inquiry into events running up to the cancellation of Leadercast.

There will be no investigation into the cancellation of a live leadership simulcast.

Nanaimo city council made an in-camera decision Monday to release a report on the sequence of events leading up to the cancellation of Leadercast, but not launch an inquiry into the issue.

A 158-page redacted version of the report is expected to be on the city’s website this week after it undergoes a Freedom of Information review.

“The public is encouraged to read the documents online and make your own judgement,” said Mayor John Ruttan.

In July, Coun. Bill McKay and Bill Bestwick announced the intention to seek a probe into the Leadercast cancellation. Neither councillor attended the in-camera
