Don’t be surprised to find Nanaimo Mounties asking for food donations for charity this weekend.

Cram the Cruiser is an annual event when Nanaimo RCMP members ask for donated food items or cash to help fill a police cruiser with groceries to feed families in Nanaimo.

This year’s event is being hosted by Real Canadian Superstore on Saturday, Oct. 5, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., and 100 per cent of donations will go to Nanaimo Loaves and Fishes Community Food Bank.

Real Canadian Superstore employees will also be out barbecuing hamburgers and hotdogs for donations throughout the day.

“The Nanaimo RCMP is proud to assist with this worthy endeavour and will have several officers and a marked police vehicle on site all day overseeing the cramming of our cruiser,” said Const. Gary O’Brien, Nanaimo RCMP spokesman.
