Nanaimo man charged for assault with machete

NANAIMO – Nanaimo man charged with aggravated assault for July 1 machete attack.

Nanaimo RCMP have arrested and charged a man for an assault in Harewood on Canada Day.

According to Nanaimo RCMP, police and paramedics responded to a residence on the 600 block of Fifth Street shortly before 1 a.m. on July 1 to a report a man had been attacked by an unknown male assailant.

The victim received life-threatening injuries as a result of being struck in the head with a machete and was flown to Victoria General Hospital where he remains in serious but stable condition.

Nanaimo RCMP Serious Crimes Unit investigators arrested 26-year-old  Jesse Goodale, of Nanaimo, as the alleged assailant. Goodale has been charged with aggravated assault and is scheduled to appear in Nanaimo provincial court today (July 14).
