Multicultural festival features JJ Lavallee

Champion Canadian fiddler JJ Lavalee, and the Langley Ukulele Ensemble will be among the lineup of diverse entertainers.

Champion Canadian fiddler JJ Lavalee, and the Langley Ukulele Ensemble will be among the lineup of diverse entertainers participating in the Multicultural Gathering of Nations taking place at the Chief Will-Yum PowWow arbor at Sugar Cane this weekend.

The gathering, to  which the whole community is invited, takes place Saturday, June 11 and Sunday, June 12.

Admission to the event is by donation with all proceeds supporting the cost of the event.

SATURDAY

The schedule of entertainment Saturday begins with the opening ceremony and grand entry with flags of nations at the arbour stage starting at noon.

1 p.m.: Hoop Dancers.

1:40 p.m.: JJ Lavallee.

2:20 p.m.: Angel Keys Choir.

3 p.m.: Langley Ukulele Ensemble.

4 p.m.: Latino Community Performance.

4:40 p.m.: Nighthawks country/rock band.

5:20 p.m.: Carmen Mutschele and Craig.

6 p.m.: Arnold and Wayne Lucier.

6:40 p.m.: JJ Lavallee.

There will be a traditional feast of a salmon dinner at 5 p.m.

The feast is offered by donation.

SUNDAY

Sunday’s events also begin at noon with the traditional opening ceremonies.

12:30 p.m.: Hoop Dancers.

1:10 p.m.: JJ Lavallee.

1:50 p.m. Williams Lake Pipe Band.

2:30 p.m.: Meera Shah.

3:10 p.m.: Powwow Dancers.

4 p.m.: Closing Ceremony.

Food vendors will be on site both Saturday and Sunday with international offerings including barbecue brisket, dishes of India, First Nations bannock, and more.

Bus tours of the Sugar Cane community, including the newly restored heritage church will be available throughout both days.
