There will be some fresh faces in town at the end of the month, but not from new people.
Instead, they will be the freshly shaven faces of some local people who have some long-term residents of their own on their upper lips.
“The three Rob’s” will be all volunteering their upper lips for the cause: Mayor Rob MacDougall, Sana’aih Market Manager Rob Gardner and Fire Chief Rob Bennett. As well, Mark Rivard of the BC Ambulance Service and RCMP Constable Greg Pichler, organizer of the event, will also be lightening the load on their lips.
MacDougall said he has never shaven his before, and his wife Terri-lee has never seen him with it off.
Garden also said he has had a moustache more than 40 years, since he could grow one.
In addition, Constable Mark Hillard and Staff Sergeant Paul Thalhofer are also lined up to of have some hair removed, according to Pichler, but because they don’t have moustaches, their sacrifice will be in the form of leg and/or chest hair.
Hillard is the newest constable and Thalhofer is the commanding officer of the precinct, and Pichler said he put the idea forward to Thalhofer by putting it in a different light, as morale-building.
“I said, ‘Think of it this way, when have you ever seen a young constable be able to rip a strip off his boss and not get in trouble,'” said Pichler.
The moustache demolition and body hair removal will be part of an event taking place at Stone’s Pub at August 29 to raise money for the Canadian Cancer Society as part of Greg Pichler’s Cops for Cancer participation this year.
Pichler will be riding once again and the event is to help get the community involved and raise some funds to support the cause.
