Kristi Davis thinks it’s a miracle that she, her four young kids, or someone else wasn’t hurt, or even killed, during an accident next to her home on May 27.
Davis said she was at home on Frayne Road in Mill Bay with her children shortly after 3 p.m. on May 27 when she answered a knock on her door.
She said it was her neighbour asking if she and her family were alright after a horrific accident left two severely damaged vehicles in the yard next door to her house.
Both vehicles had travelled about 50 metres after the collision and went over her lawn, where she and her kids regularly play, before coming to a stop on the lawn next door.
Davis said her neighbour heard a big bang and saw a “quick streak” go by his house.
“A white SUV was parked on the side of the road as a lady was taking her grandson home to his house when a white pick-up truck smashed into the SUV’s rear end at a high speed,” she said.
“The truck drove the SUV across the boulevard, just barely missing a big BC Hydro box, and across my lawn and neighbour’s driveway before finally coming to a stop. A few trees on my lawn were also taken out, but the driver of the pick-up was lucky because if he hadn’t hit the SUV, he probably would have gone into a heavily wooded area. It was quite a tremendous accident.”
Davis said her neighbour helped the driver of the pick-up truck, who didn’t appear to be injured, out of his vehicle while she called 911.
She said police cars, fire trucks and an ambulance were soon on the scene and the driver of the truck was taken to hospital.
“The lady who owned the SUV was horrified and was glad her daughter-in-law had kept her engaged in conversation at the door of her house long enough so that she wasn’t in her vehicle when it was rear ended,” Davis said.
“It’s a miracle because I’m out there in my yard all the time with my children, and there’s usually kids riding bikes on the road as well. I’m so grateful that it was raining that day.”
