The majority of voters have approved renovations and upgrades to the Sam Ketcham Pool in Williams Lake.

“A total of 4,240 Central Cariboo residents participated in the SKP Referendum through mail-in ballots, advance polls and general voting day held this past Saturday,” noted a joint press released from the Cariboo Regional District and City of Williams Lake.

The amount in favour represented 68 per cent of the vote, allowing the CRD to borrow up to $10 million over 20 years for the pool while the remaining money needed for the estimated $11.3 million-project will need to be made up from grants, fundraising and capital reserves.

It is anticipated the next step will be for the CRD to approved the borrowing bylaw at its Dec. 12 meeting.

After that the CRD board will begin working on the design phase with construction expected to begin in 2016.
