Local RCMP officers crack down on excessive speeding

Lead foot results in impounded wheels

100 Mile RCMP responded to 115 complaints and calls for service during the past week.

Excessive speeding

Last week, four drivers were stopped for excessive speeding and ticketed.

Their vehicles were impounded for seven days and they were responsible for towing and storage costs.

Roadside check

On July 24, 100 Mile RCMP, along with Traffic Services, conducted a road check on Highway 97 at Canim-Hendrix Lake Road.

Several drivers were found to be in contravention of the Motor Vehicle Act and were charged accordingly. One driver was found to be prohibited from driving.

Another driver failed a roadside breath test after admitting to having four beers. This resulted in his vehicle being impounded and a 90-day prohibition from driving was served.

Drinking and speeding

On July 23, police stopped a vehicle doing 103 km/h leaving 100 Mile in the 50 km zone.

The driver showed signs of impairment and failed a roadside breath test. The driver was issued a 90-day driving prohibition and his vehicle was impounded for 30 days.

The driver was also charged for having open liquor in the vehicle and excessive speed.

Stolen property

On July 19, acting on information from the public, 100 Mile RCMP officers stopped a young male who had been seen going through a parked vehicle.

He was searched “incidental to his arrest” and he was found to be in possession of stolen property. The RCMP is recommending charges against this youth and a summons has been requested.

Break and enter

Sometime between July 16 and 18, the Forest Grove Community Centre was broken into and the suspect(s) proceeded to pry open multiple doors and broke a window.

It is not known what, if anything, was stolen during this break-in.
