Fire crews were called to the scene of an illegal burn pile on Ferguson Road a little after 10:30 a.m. today (Aug. 20).

“It was a burn pile,” said Beaver Creek Volunteer Fire Department Captain Jim Jones said. “And burn piles are illegal right now.”

Four BCVFD trucks and 10 personnel responded to the small fire. Jones said that the fire was doused quickly.

“In conditions like these… it could have gotten out of control easily,” said Jones.

Campfires and burn piles are currently prohibited due to the extreme fire hazard rating in the Alberni Valley.
