Hope’s recreation centre is staying closed for the time being, with the regional district to announce their plans for local recreational programming in the coming weeks.
“I wish that it was as simple as unlocking the doors and letting everyone back in to participate in their favourite recreational activities, but unfortunately, the recreation centre is a very complex operation,” said Jennifer Kinneman, the Fraser Valley Regional District’s chief administrative officer. “How we use all of our facilities will be very different than before COVID, so it is going to take time and patience for everyone to adjust.”
The recreation centre has been closed since mid-March, as provincial and federal measures to curtail the spread of the coronavirus began in earnest.
As other regional district facilities are going through phased reopenings, Kinneman stated that a clearer timeline around ‘the reintroduction of some recreational programming’ in Hope will be announced in the coming weeks.
Some of the considerations for re-opening include the health and safety of users and staff, the FVRD’s top stated priority, as well as possibly additional staff and capital retrofits to meet WorkSafe and provincial health directives.
