Gun smuggler caught at Aldergrove

An American resident has pleaded guilty to three charges.

A Florida man who tried to bring a loaded pistol through the Aldergrove border crossing has been convicted of smuggling.

Joseph Buice, 66, pulled up to the border crossing on April 11 of this year, according to a Canada Border Services Agency announcement.

CBSA spokespersons would not say how the guns and ammunition came to their attention, but Buice had a loaded .22 calibre revolver, and two prohibited over-capacity semi-automatic pistol magazines.

A warrant was issued for Buice and he was brought to Surrey Provincial Court on June 22.

Buice pled guilty to three counts, including unauthorized possession or a prohibited weapon with ammunition, was fined $3,500 plus $300 in victim surcharges, and sentenced to a day in jail.

He was also given a 10-year firearm ban in Canada.
