Environmentalists have planned a rally in Parksville for Friday, Sept. 18.

Qualicum Nature Preservation Society president Ezra Morse said the rally will take place at 11 a.m. at the office of Parksville-Qualicum MLA Michelle Stilwell.

A press release said participants in the Oceanside Forest March are urging the province to build a new forest framework that respects nature and Indigenous systems and gives power back to communities.

“Today, with the Pacific Northwest on fire, we come face-to-face with the longterm consequences of climate change,” said Morse. “We’re proud to see our communities coming together to demand action to protect our vital natural assets that we need so much in these uncertain times, such as our ancient forests.”

The event is hosted by the Arrowsmith Watershed Coalition Society, Arrowsmith Groundwater Alliance, Communities Protecting Our Coast, Arrowsmith Parks and Land Use Council, Friends of the Qualicum Beach Forest and QNPS.

“The Oceanside Forest Alliance invites the community to join them to stand for healthy forests, a new forest framework and sustainable, longterm forestry jobs,” stated the press release.
