A young girl is in critical condition after being hit by a car Friday night.
The 16-year-old from Surrey was crossing Highway 10 near 180 Street. She was struck by a westbound SUV and suffered extensive head and body injuries.
She was airlifted to hospital, where she remains in critical condition.
She was wearing dark clothing, and police say she was not at a marked crossing. Police also say it was dark out and the road conditions were wet.
They do not believe speed or alcohol were factors. The driver was not injured, but was shaken up as a result of the collision. Charges are not anticipated.
The female victim did not have any identification on her, and it took police time to identify her. Her family has been advised and is with her at the hospital.
The incident is being investigated by Surrey RCMP Traffic Services. Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the collision to contact the Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502.
