Delta Police Major Crimes Investigators have released the name of the individual who died in the police-involved shooting at Nimpo Lake Saturday.
Twenty-four-year-old Justin Zinser died Sept. 24.
According to a Delta Police press release, RCMP received a report of a domestic dispute in which an assault was alleged to have occurred. Police responded to the area to investigate the domestic assault. In attending the residence, police believed the subject of the complaint was armed. RCMP members re-positioned their location and maintained a safe distance awaiting additional police resources. Prior to additional officers arriving, the armed male approached the officers on foot. The officers engaged and ultimately shot(s) were fired and the male succumbed to his injuries, police say.
The Delta Police were called in to investigate the incident and, according to the release, have been conducting interviews, scene examination, and seizing exhibits in an effort to determine the circumstances that led to the death.
An autopsy was scheduled for today (Tuesday).
The Delta Police release further states that it does not anticipate releasing any additional information until the investigation is concluded.
Police add that Zinser‘s family has been notified and are understandably deeply grieved by the loss of their loved one.
