Good evening, Kelowna. Your time is precious, so we at the Capital News have rounded up the Top Five things for you to think about as you get ready to shut down Oct. 13, 2016.
1.) Top of mind is the dreary day. Hope you weathered it well. Sorry to say there are more ahead. As you fall asleep tonight about 10 to 15 mm of rain will have fallen and temperatures will drop to 6 C. Prepare for more of the same tomorrow. So wellies and a warm sweater would be pretty good casual Friday attire, if you’re the type to set something aside ahead of time.
2.) Kelowna is a hotbed of newsy stories this week. Among our top reads is news that big numbers of former Kelowna Rockets are hitting the ice as part of the NHL this season.
We also have a story from reporter Kevin Parnell about Kelowna kids learning how to “change the world.” In case you were wondering, there’s an app for that.
We also had a story from reporter Kathy Michaels about how women are faring when compared to men in urban centres across Canada. Spoiler Alert — it’s not great in Kelowna. In fact we’re 17 in a list of 25.
3.) While we think local is the best, we know you want to know about what’s happening in this province.
4.) Have a Samsung 7? Our sympathies. The good news is you can start returning them now.
And what about that US election? Crazy, right? Given they live so close, we have no choice but to pay attention. Here’s one about Trump allegedly running amok with a Canadian reporter. Here’s another US election story, that highlights how the NYT and Trump are getting on this election.
5.) Finally, before you power down, here’s something nice and light. National treasure Alex Trebek has raised the ire of “nerds” across the world for comments he made to a contestant earlier this week. Oh, Alex. Oh, Canada.
