A firefighter is running for Langley Township council this fall, with public safety as one of his key issues.

Craig Teichrieb is a firefighter in Richmond, where he’s vice president of the Richmond Firefighters Association. He started his firefighting career on-call at Langley’s Hall Six.

“As a firefighter, you can bet community safety is on the forefront of my interests,” Teichrieb said in a press release. “The policy of public safety is extremely broad, as it covers matters from how our RCMP officers are utilized, as well as staffing of our fire halls and trucks, to ensuring ambulance service is adequate for the communities within the Township.”

Challenges with the legalization and regulation of cannabis growing – which happens within days of the October civic elections – and the future development of his home neighbourhood of Brookswood are also on Teichrieb’s agenda, he said.
